Frequently Asked Questions :
Not ALL vehicles can be imported. You cannot take your pick of vehicles and assume it will be imported. There are only four ways to have a vehicle imported. Some restrictions apply to these rules.
1) A Race and Rally import which means any vehicle can be imported under this rule , but it will only ever be able to be used off road and cannot ever be registered. Conditons apply.
2) Any vehicle manufactured before 1st January 1989 can be imported. Conditions apply to left hand drive vehicles and to buses and trucks.
3) A Personal Import. If you have lived overseas for a minimum of twelve months and can prove ownership of a vehicle in your name for that period you may be able to bring this vehicle back with you on your return to Australia.
4) Other than the above methods there is only one way to select a vehicle to import. It must be listed on the SEVS Register ( please see the SEVS Index link at the bottom of this page). If a vehicle IS NOT on this list , it CANNOT be imported.
These rules and regulations are imposed by the Department of Transport and Regional Services and NOT by importers. For inquiries on why a vehicle can or cannot be imported you will need to contact the Department.
Compliancing means ensuring each vehicle imported meets the safety standards of the Australia Design Rules. ALL VEHICLES imported must have some degree of compliance or modification work performed to them depending on it's method of importation. Vehicles cannot be registered until they have been complied. A lot of work is performed on each vehicle to make sure it is not only safe to use but all components of each car are in good working order. Licences are required to comply cars and we are a Registered Automotive Workshop licenced by The Department of Transport and Regional Services to do this. All Road Worthy items are inspected and/or replaced during the compliance process on each vehicle.
